Metal to Infinity

Review for Album: Hear their Cries

Thrash Metal maniacs, watch out for the new album from Davidian – a five piece outfit armed with very explosive and aggressive skills. Without doubt, ”Hear Their Cries” is one of the better Thrash Metal discs at the moment to me.

German based Davidian was formed back in 1997 axe wielders Alex Schniepp and Micha Weidler,
a duo charged with scorching thrashing riffs and solos…they’re still active in Davidian so you are warned!! In the very early days of existence, they only played cover songs but took the right decision to switch the blade and go for their own created works, actually flammable Thrash Metal compositions. Back then (1999), along with vocalist Chris Pendergast – Davidian worked out a first demo to promote what they had to offer, the next following year, a second one came out entitled ”…In Pain”. According to the info sheet, this demo was a ‘well done’ output but some line up changes popped up afew months later on. Drummer Tobi left while Alex Scherf entered the Davidian ranks.

New line up was a fact, plans for a first full length effort were made and became reality in 2003. ”Absolute Power” was the title of this self produced CD, the band’s fan base grew on and on, Davidian destroyed several European stages during their live acts. In 2004, the band was hit (again) by bad luck. Singer Chris stepped out of the core, the rest of the band was forced the find a substitute. The proverb sounds: ‘those who search will find’. After all, an American shouter Dave Hopkins appeared, did some auditions and the band opened up the front door to let him in offering his talented, very aggressive vocal assault. All went very good, musicianship took on an optimal form…yeah, they were ready for a new album that would get the title ”Hear Their Cries”, produced / mixed and mastered by famous Andy Classen. The band signed a deal with Limited Access Records so…

The promo reached my postal address earlier this week, I played this disc very loud and hardly couldn’t believe my ears. The WOW effect applied, I was damn impressed with the final result of ”Hear Their Cries” true and true. Right from the very first track, ‘Judas Cross’, Davidian’s abilities to blow you away become immediately confirms! Furious, aggressive vocals to work contagious – in combination with superb, ultra fast, pure Thrash Metal guitar riffs / solos…a real feast on Thrash Metal can start. Ear anaesthetising drums beats and killer bass lines roaring like thunder to give you a real good time.

For all clarity, this type of Thrash Metal belongs not to the category of ‘Bay Area’ – instead, Davidian can be described as the ‘new breed of nowadays Thrash Metal music’. I refuse to use the word ‘modern’ because these guys doesn’t sound this way at all. You can’t sit still while listening at Davidian, the awesome rhythms to force you start banging your head immediately is a fact. As soon as this CD starts to play, you’ll turn on the volume right away…forget about your neighbours, krank it up and be one with the forces of ‘thrashing’ steel.

From beginning till end, magnificent songs where power, speed and aggression rule – try it out at own risk, this one is for die-hard thrashing maniacs only. Very good effort, well done guys!!
